Wheel balancing is the process of harmonizing the weight of a tire and wheel assembly so that it rolls evenly at higher speeds. This requires putting a wheel and tire assembly on a wheel balancer, which spins it to determine the location where weights should be added. This balancing needs to be performed every time a tire is mounted onto a wheel. This ensures the weight is evenly distributed throughout the wheel by evening out heavy and light spots, so that it rotates smoothly. Even a slight difference in weight in the wheels will cause enough momentum to create a vibration in the vehicle.
In the eyes of the law, tires are worn out when they have 2/32″ of remaining tread depth. Tires sold in North America are required to have indicators moulded into their tread design to help warn drivers when their tires no longer meet minimum tread depth. However, tires that have a tread depth of 4/32″ and less are prone to cause hydroplaning in wet driving conditions and should be replaced. Winter tires that have a tread depth of 5/32″ or less no longer offer effective snow traction and should be replaced as well.
In all modern vehicles, manufacturers determine an optimal and safe tire pressure recommended for each model. This information is usually available in the owner’s manual but also printed on a sticker applied to the driver side door jam (it can also be located in the trunk lid, in the console or in the fuel door on some models). Make sure to keep your tires always inflated properly to operate your vehicle safely, promote optimal fuel economy and handling and prevent premature wear.
Most Tireland – ICI Pneu locations offer multiple additional maintenance and repair services. You can select some of the available services you need when booking an appointment, and your service centre will make sure to schedule plenty of time for you and advise you on your vehicle needs once in store.
